Description
This piece started out as an abstract in Art Set and evolved into my memories of the beach when I was a child. We spent almost the entire summer on the beach in Rhode Island. We belonged to Bonnet Shores Beach Club in the 1960's. My Dad's sisters all had cabanas on the beach so there was always lots of fun with my cousins. Lots of exploring. Playing tetherball in the pit. Lots of arts and crafts with mosaics and popsicle sticks. Such wonderful memories. My Mom would pack lunches in big coolers. I remember the taste of a meatball sandwich on the beach. The salt air would give you an appetite. I also remember the healing properties of the salt water. I had difficulty as a child with eczema on my hands and my Pediatrician always said the best medicine was the salt water and it was like magic. One day at the beach and it made my eczema almost disappear and feel so much better. Well, I have not been in the ocean in a very long time. I have not been able to go into the water to swim since the first medical waste washed up on shore. That was back in 1985 I think. I'll get my feet wet but I will not stay in the water. I also don't eat raw littlenecks anymore...not since then. And to think our oceans are in worse shape today rather than better. It is very sad to me as I have such beautiful memories of the beach.
