The fish symbol has dated back to 6,000 B.C. in Ancient Europe and symbolized determination, adaptability, and the flow of life in ancient European and Norse cultures. The Salmon was symbolic to the ancient Celtic people who believed it represented knowledge, wisdom, mystic inspiration, prophecy, and rebirth. The Koi fish in the orient often swim in pairs and symbolize fertility and abundance. The fish symbolizes many different meanings for different cultures. It is amazing how many different species of fish exist and how different cultures view them. I have found while caring for patients during my nursing career that it is very important to be mindful of cultural beliefs when formulating a care plan with a patient. We all have our preferences and beliefs, and our diversity should always be respected. This is a pastel on paper created by hand and was also enhanced digitally.
